Physical Chemistry of RNA in Protocell
Our lab investigates the complex world of biological systems, focusing mainly on the structural dynamics and functional connections of RNA molecules. We carefully examine RNA behavior in various chemical environments using spectroscopy methods such as fluorescence and electron spin resonance (ESR). Our research combines experimental research with theoretical insights, allowing us to reveal the dynamic nature of RNA. We aim to enhance the scientific community's understanding of RNA's critical roles in essential biological processes.
Research Projects
Questions we ask.
How life emerged?
We study how current biology could evolve from the RNA world. We build and create protocells to understand why cellular structure is essential to the current biology.
How RNA works?
The structural dynamic of functional RNA correlates with its activity. Such correlation is often complex and largely depends on environments. We use spin-label ESR spectroscopy to resolve the complex structural dynamics of functional RNAs.
How to pick useful RNAs?
We use in-vitro selection as a strategy to select functional RNAs for bioengineering and fundamental research purposes.
